Our rescue programs save lives from the most dire situations.
At SASF our first responsibility is to the stray pets and owner surrendered pets in our township. Last year, out of the 900 dogs and cats that were adopted through SASF, 498 pets were stay cats and stray dogs. We also re-homed 202 owner surrenders in 2016. When we can help- we will! Our rescue programs save lives from the most desperate and dire situations. When we have an open kennel and are able to reach out, we do. We help the other local shelter on Long Island, survivors of puppy mills, dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters in New York City and have joined with a rescue team to save dogs from high-kill shelters in Georgia. We have recently gone to Puerto Rico and this year we have started to help the “satos” or street dogs.
